Saxophonist Henk van Twillert (1959) studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Ed Bogaard, where he completed his studies for the soloist diploma with distinction.
Founded the famous The Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet in 1979 which did successful tours with, among others, Jaap van Zweden and Daniël Wayenberg. Notable events were the closing concert of EXPO '98 in Lisbon and the opening of the AJAX stadium Arena in Amsterdam.

Since 1993 Henk van Twillert has recorded several CDs as a soloist with the Amsterdam Soloist Quintet “Tango, a homage to Astor Piazzolla” and “Homage to Heitor Villa-Lobos”. From 2001 Henk van Twillert started playing and recording the famous “Cello Suites” by Johann Sebastian Bach. In 2002 Van Twillert made a CD with Portuguese fado music: “Saudades”, in combination with the God Father of Portuguese Fado Carlos do Carmo, with whom he recently performed on the beautiful stage of Amsterdam's Carre.
In 2006 and 2007 Henk was invited to the prestigious New Port Music Festival in America together with soprano Inessa Galante.
Between 2009 and 2011, Henk van Twillert stayed in New York to work on his thesis “Bach's Cello Suites Transcription and Interpretation for Baritone Saxophone”. At the same time, he started as a songwriter and bandleader as Mr. Henk & Band working on his album “New York”, launched in 2015.
Henk van Twillert obtained his PhD in July 2013 with the Cello Suites by Johann Sebastian Bach for his Doctoral Degree, in 2015 his book J.S. Bach Six Suites for Vioncello Solo, Transcription and Interpretation for Baritone Saxophone published by Nota de Rodapé Ediçōes, Paris.
Henk van Twillert is a saxophone teacher at the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts in Porto, Portugal, where he formed the international saxophone group Vento do Norte which has toured extensively throughout Europe, the Caribbean, South and recently North America.
After 25 years as a permanent saxophone teacher at the Amsterdam Conservatory, he now works there as a guest teacher. Van Twillert always combines the love for music with teaching workshops, master classes and worldwide concerts with in his bag his special music program for children “Stars of the Future”.
