Hi, I’m Jennifer Hopelezz, the proud mom of the House of Hopelezz. I’ve got more than 50 children & countless relatives! I’m not just a mom but also a businessperson, activist, columnist & sports fanatic. I’m originally from Sydney, Australia but moved to Amsterdam in the 90’s for the liberal and free-spirited atmosphere of this beautiful city.
I’m particularly interested in issues of gender, homophobia & transphobia, gay nightlife, sexual positivity & visibility, HIV and AIDS and personal freedom.
I fight for a ‘safe & sensible’ sex and party scene and am a founding member of PrEPnu, a group fighting for full access to PrEP (a drug that effectively prevents the transmission of the HIV virus). I’m a strong supporter of sexual diversity and personal responsibility.
I co-founded Pink Point with the LGBTQ info kiosk at the Homomonument, the Drag Olympics, The Streetheart Festival, and Superball, a ‘Eurovision for Drag artists.’
Although the core business of a drag queen is entertainment, I believe that drag performers can & should use the attention they get to play a role in society. Political activism in combination with drag has a long history, going back to the Stonewall riots in New York that ushered in the gay rights movement.
I was the ambassador to Amsterdam Pride in 2018, and I opened and hosted the ‘International Aids Conference Global Village’ in both 2018 & 2020.
I’m now currently co-owner of Gay Sauna NZ, the Amsterdam fetish club ChUrch, as well as being a board member of the GALA (Gay & Lesbian Amsterdam) Foundation.
