Why did you decide to pursue "Plunck"?

Plunck initially started as a local band in Delft, formed by high school friends. As some members began their professional music careers, we decided to revamp the lineup by inviting new friends we met at the conservatory. Now, Plunck has evolved into its own business, performing around 25 gigs annually at weddings, company parties, and festivals.

What has been the toughest part of your journey so far?

Securing a consistent stream of gigs has proven to be challenging. While certain periods can be quite busy, with up to two gigs per week, there are also times when we only have one gig per month. Ensuring a steady flow of work is crucial for everyone to meet their financial obligations. Additionally, maintaining a fixed lineup of band members can be difficult as we all play in other bands as well.

 

 

And the most rewarding part?

The most rewarding part is experiencing the joy of a lively crowd who truly appreciates our music. We take pride in getting people on the dancefloor and having a diverse repertoire that appeals to a wide audience. Going home after such an energetic performance is always a great feeling.

 

Do you have any ambitious milestones you wish to achieve in the coming years?

Currently, we are satisfied with how the band is operating. Our primary goal is to maintain a consistent number of shows. As a cover band, our performance opportunities are mainly limited to private parties.

 

 

What advice would you offer to someone starting their own band?

The key is to keep the fun alive in music! Avoid playing the same repertoire for years if it doesn't resonate with you. Begin with a series of café gigs to gain exposure, experiment with your repertoire, and enjoy the process of growing closer as a band.

 

What have been your most valuable lessons in running an event industry business?

Document everything agreed upon with clients and share it with them before the event. This helps prevent misunderstandings and provides a reference point if needed. Additionally, stand up for your rights. Some event planners may try to exert control but remember that the event is a collaborative effort. With our band's extensive experience, we can assist in making important decisions, such as assessing venue suitability, managing sound levels, and creating effective schedules.
